About Us

Our Story

Wild Hive began the way most meaningful things do — quietly, and out of necessity.

In late 2022, Candice Prins found herself craving something slower. After years of chasing productivity, she returned to her roots outside Warburg, Alberta and rediscovered an old craft: candlemaking. What started as an experiment on a kitchen counter quickly became an obsession — and then a calling.

She wanted candles that felt as honest as the land around her. No synthetic fragrances. No paraffin shortcuts. Just pure, golden beeswax, hand-dipped with intention.

The Craft: Hand-Dipped, Every Time

Every Wild Hive candle is made by hand in our small studio just outside Warburg. We work in small batches — because that's the only way to do it right.

Our tapers are hand-dipped, layer by layer, in slow, deliberate passes through molten beeswax. Each dip builds the candle gradually, creating a dense, even body that burns longer and cleaner than poured alternatives. It's a meditative process — one that can't be rushed, and one we wouldn't want to rush.

No moulds. No machines. Just wax, wick, and hands that know what they're doing.

What Goes In: Sourcing & Ingredients

We believe what a candle is made of matters — for your home, for your health, and for the planet.

  • Pure Beeswax — We source high-quality, minimally processed beeswax from trusted Canadian apiaries. Beeswax burns cleaner than paraffin, emits a naturally warm glow, and carries a subtle, honey-sweet scent all on its own.
  • Botanical Pigments — Our signature colours come from botanical and mineral pigments — earthy, muted tones that feel at home in a farmhouse kitchen or a candlelit dinner table. No synthetic dyes, no neons, no compromises.
  • Cotton Wicks — Lead-free, and sized to the candle so you get a clean, steady flame every time.

Made with the Land in Mind

Sustainability isn't a marketing word for us — it's a constraint we work within gladly. Our packaging is minimal and recyclable. Our beeswax is a natural, renewable resource. And because we make everything in small batches, we produce only what's needed — no overstock, no waste.

We're a small team of chandlers who care deeply about what we put into the world. Every candle that leaves our studio is something we're proud to put our name on.
